Standing United Against Racism and Strengthening Safeguarding at Raglan JFC

At Raglan JFC, our pitch isn’t just a field of play—it’s a platform for positive change. This season, we’re proud to deepen our partnership with Show Racism the Red Card, reflect on last year’s campaign, and roll out robust safeguarding and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) policies to protect every member of our community.

Embracing the Show Racism the Red Card Campaign

Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity, founded in January 1996 and supported early on by Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop. Through workshops, training sessions, multimedia resources, and high-profile football ambassadors, SRtRC reaches over 50,000 individuals each year to challenge discrimination and build inclusive communities.

This year, on the 12th October, we will be doing it again, hoping to raise more awareness and

Reflecting on Last Year’s Stand

In October 2024, Raglan JFC players and coaches took a unified stand by showing racism the red card on and off the pitch. We distributed educational materials to families, and shared personal pledges on social media. That collective action reinforced our belief that every voice matters—and that silence in the face of hate is never an option.

New Safeguarding and EDI Policies

To ensure safety, respect, and fair treatment for all, Raglan JFC has updated its core policies:

  • Child Protection Policy;
  • Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Policy;
  • Code of Conduct for players, coaches, volunteers;
  • Anti-Bullying & Anti-Discrimination Procedure;
  • Reporting & Complaints Channels;
  • Designated Welfare Officers with clear contact routes.

These procedures embed person-centred care, respect for individual differences, and transparent accountability at every level of the club.

Implementing FAW Safeguarding Initiatives

Aligned with Football Association of Wales (FAW) guidelines, we’re also rolling out two key programmes:

  • FAW Safeguarding Awareness Award
    A two-hour online course (£25) focused on recognising and responding to harm, neglect, or abuse. It emphasises person-centred coaching that puts each player’s wellbeing first.
  • Adult DBS Rollout
    All senior coaches, club personnel, and referees must hold a valid enhanced DBS check for regulated activity. These checks are free for volunteers and ensuring our entire leadership team meets the highest safeguarding standards.

Looking Ahead

Raglan JFC’s commitment goes beyond the final whistle. By partnering with Show Racism the Red Card, standing by last year’s pledges, and embracing enhanced safeguarding and EDI policies, we’re creating a club culture rooted in respect, inclusion, and safety. Let’s continue this vital work together—on every touchline, in every dressing room, and across our wider community.
